Free FibroScan Examination

Doing clinical studies allows us to offer liver scans absolutely free using the latest FDA approved technology. That means that we can focus on our patient's health instead of what the insurance will cover or how much it will cost. You don't have to be diagnosed to have it done, which is good because in many cases people don't know they have fatty liver until it has progressed. If you have been diagnosed it's a good way to check your current liver health status.

Why is our liver important?

The liver is a vital and the largest solid organ in the human body (weighs about the same as a football). Located in the right upper side of the abdomen of it serves as a toxin filter, vitamin/mineral storage, helps with digestion, regulates blood clotting, excretes cholesterol, maintains proper blood sugar/glucose levels, and performs hundreds of other vital functions.

What is fatty liver disease aka NAFLD aka NASH?

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (steatosis) is the most common form of chronic liver disease affecting about 25% of the population. As the name implies it is excessive fat stored in liver cells. It is a contributing factor leading to fibrosis which is stiffening or scarring of the liver tissue. If detected early, the liver can regenerate and repair itself. If left unchecked, in some cases it can turn into a more serious condition called cirrhosis which eventually leads to liver failure or liver cancer.

Are you at risk?

Many health conditions or diseases can increase the risk of NAFLD:

Overweight/obesity - High cholesterol - High blood pressure - Type 2 diabetes - Sleep apnea - Insulin resistance - Hispanic or Asian decent - Postmenopausal women - Elevated triglyceride levels - Alcohol history - Hepatitis C -Low testosterone - Hypothyroidism - Taking certain medications

Symptoms

Most people don't experience any symptoms until later stages of the fatty liver progression. That is why early detection, much like other health conditions, is so important. For those that experience symptoms they may include:

Pain or discomfort in upper right abdomen - Fatigue - Yellowish skin - Nausea - Weakness - Loss of appetite - Swollen abdomen - Weight loss
